Melodies of Nostalgia...
What’s your type? Are you more of an "I enjoy the silence" kind of person or someone who always has something playing in the background? I am the latter one! For as long as I can remember, music has been my eternal companion. It’s like a friend who’s been there with me through thick and thin, always in the background no matter what.
Speaking of the companionship that music has provided me, allow me to take you to the early driving days. Do you remember what your early days of driving were like? I’ll never forget mine, especially those initial solo drives. My friends had deemed me ready to venture into the wild world of driving on my own. I vividly remember being scared even with the thoughts of being alone in the car with no one to guide me with navigation or reassuring words. The antidote to my nerves? Music, of course! I decided that I was going to turn on the radio and befriend it forever. I tell you what, the radio was not just a source of melodies for me back then; it was my co-pilot, making every daunting journey a little less lonely. And just like that, I have never stopped playing something in the car until today.
Today, a random encounter with an old song and many more after that took me down memory lane, hence this blog post. Suddenly, I was back in my early school and undergrad days, reliving moments that seemed to have faded. I can’t be the only one who thinks there’s something magical about how music acts as a time machine, transporting us to the heart of cherished memories, can I? I still remember that the Hindi song “Salam-e-Ishq” came out when we were in seventh grade. My best friend and I used to sing it during the breaks. The memories of the school building, the classroom setting, the joy we took in singing that song, and the friendship we shared came flooding back at the mere thought of the song. The same for the Manipal version of “Summer of ‘69” - oh, the best days of my life. Iykyk…
Also, it's incredible how songs have been the glue of so many of my connections. Friendships forged in school days, undergrad years, even GRE classes - I feel like they are all stitched together by the threads of music. Feeling a surge of nostalgia, I decided to create a playlist titled "Old is Gold." And as I write this, the playlist is serenading me in the background, evoking a flood of wonderful memories.
Ah, what a day! 😊
